Drunk drivers don't always cause injuries to passengers in their vehicles or to people in other vehicles. One 35-year-old man from Manor, Texas, is charged with intoxication assault for his role in an accident that occurred in downtown Austin. According to police, the man was driving about 1:15 a.m., on a recent Saturday when struck a parked car. A witness to the crash said that the vehicle was traveling at a "high rate of speed" when the vehicle was hit. That car was pushed into two pedestrians who were loading items into another vehicle. The two women were pinned between two cars. The man allegedly left the accident scene, but a witness followed the vehicle and was able to get a picture of its license plate. Police were given a description of the car and an officer located it near Interstate 35 and East Seventh Street. According to the officer, the vehicle sped up to 105 mph after he tried to initiate a traffic stop. The vehicle eventually crashed into a guardrail and police were able to arrest the driver. The driver is also charged with evading and failure to stop and render aid. The two women were both taken to a hospital for treatment. One of them had to have surgery for an injury to her knee. Drunk driving can have catastrophic results. Whether you are walking, on a motorcycle, in a semi-truck or even in your own home, a drunk driver can crash into you. In cases such as these, a personal injury lawsuit could help you get the compensation you need for medical bills, pain and suffering, lost wages and more.
