When most people think of animal bites, a bite by a deadly cobra is not normally the first thing to come to mind. However, that's almost what happened when Houston police responded to a luxury apartment building in the city's downtown area. Several of the occupants of the high-rise building saw an albino cobra on the third floor. The monocled cobra, which is legal to own in Texas, is very dangerous as its bite can be deadly. The residents who saw the snake immediately retreated into their apartment. Police used a broom to keep the snake in a corner until an animal control company could arrive and catch the poisonous snakes. The snake was eventually euthanized, as the company couldn't fined anyone to take it. The cobra, according to the man with the animal control company, "is one of the deadliest snakes in the world." No one seems to know who the snake belongs to or how it made its way up to the third floor of the apartment building. When a pet animal bites someone, the owner or owners could be held liable for medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages and much more. In some cases, a person's homeowner's policy could cover these expenses, although in some cases, the type of animal must be approved by the insurance company. Those who have been injured due to a dog, cat or other type of animal bite should be sure that they understand Texas law when it comes to seeking compensation. A personal injury attorney can provide more information on this type of civil case. Source: Breitbart.com, "Deadly Cobra Holds Texas Cops at Bay," Bob Price, July 30, 2015
