Businesses have a responsibility to ensure the safety of their customers and other visitors. One Texas hotel has been named as a defendant in a premises liability lawsuit after a man claims he suffered a severe head injury at the hotel. Quality Suites of Houston is just one defendant in the lawsuit, which alleges that a man from New York state was a guest at the hotel in January. As the man exited the hotel, the double doors closed on his head. The lawsuit states that the man suffered "serious and permanent personal injury." The allegations are that the Quality Suites, as well as the hotel's parent business, Choice Hotels, were negligent in their supervision and training, did not follow industry standards, and did not warn guests that the door was malfunctioning. Because of this alleged breach of duty, the man said he suffered disfigurement, impairment, pain and anguish. He is seeking damages between $200,000 and $1 million for medical expenses, loss of earnings and other exemplary damages. Premises liability lawsuits can help victims who are injured at a location where it is a business' obligation to keep the property safe obtain compensation for a wide range of claims. These might include medical expenses, lost wages, emotional trauma, pain and suffering and much more. An experienced attorney can provide more information on your legal options and how to proceed with a civil lawsuit. Property owners should be held accountable for hazards on the premises, especially hazards that should be easily known. An attorney will review your case and determine what is needed to get your lawsuit started.
