Seventeen million vehicles have been recalled as a result of defective air bags. That number is for all impacted vehicles worldwide. Takata, the manufacturer of the air bags released some important information about a new air bag flaw to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The NHTSA released the information that Takata provided, which stated that the driver's side air bags made in Mexico between 2008 and 2014 may not inflate property because of a punctured inflator. The air bags could inflate, causing pieces of metal and plastic to strike the car occupants. This is the same problem that was described in the earlier recall. It's not known at this time exactly how many additional vehicles may be affected by the new recall. This flaw is different from the one that caused the earlier recall. However, that flaw led to the deaths of four people and over a dozen injuries in car accidents. Takata has had several lawsuits filed against it. Now, it is having even more difficulties because it can't keep up with the demand for the parts needed for repairs on recalled vehicles. In one class action lawsuit, the attorneys for consumers have asked that their cases be acted upon quickly because of the danger to consumers. In the United States, more than 10 million vehicles have been recalled because of the defective air bags. If you have been injured because of a defective air bag or other part on your vehicle, you have the right to pursue compensation for your injuries, medical expenses, emotional trauma, lost wages and more. An experienced Texas personal injury attorney can provide more information on how a product liability case would proceed.
