Motorcyclists are out in massive numbers, enjoying the warm summer weather. These motor vehicles can be difficult to see and that makes the riders susceptible to serious accidents with other vehicles. Because there is little protecting a motorcyclist and his or her passenger from injury, these types of accidents can often be fatal. For one Travis County, Texas deputy, an accident while riding his police motorcycle resulted in a hospital visit. The motorcycle accident occurred on the morning of July 30 at the intersection of Single Trace and Wells Branch Parkway. The deputy was attempting to catch up with a traffic violator when a car pulled out right in front of him. The officer attempted to minimize the effect of the impact by sliding on his motorcycle. The deputy was able to avoid striking the car, but he and his motorcycle did crash into the curb. The deputy suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital. The accident is under investigation, but there is no word yet as to whether the other driver will be charged in relation to causing the crash. Accidents such as this one could have been more serious; however, when a person suffers injuries as a result of another's negligence, a civil lawsuit may be filed. Learning more about this type of civil suit -- for personal injuries -- can help an injured party seek compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages and emotional trauma. A wrongful death lawsuit may be filed by surviving family members of someone who was killed in such an accident.
