The death of a child is so tragic. Families are irreversibly affected and moving forward can be one of the most difficult things parents and other family members can try to do. For one woman, the deaths of two of her young children in a truck accident is devastating. The woman was traveling in her Ford pickup with three of her children, ages 5, 6 and 7, on FM 812. Her 13-year-old niece was also in the truck. When she topped the hill, she swerved to avoid a transformer that had fallen off a utility truck. The driver of the utility truck had stopped to retrieve the item that had fallen off. The woman's pickup rolled many times, ejecting the 6- and 7-year-old children. They did not survive the crash. Reportedly, the children were not buckled into their safety seats or seat belts. The 13-year-old and the 5-year-old were both transported to a local hospital. The woman was also injured and transported for medical care. According to Texas troopers, a drug test will be required for the driver of the utility truck. It is possible that the woman will have to take a drug test as well. This tragedy may have been prevented if the utility truck's load had been secured properly. Victims of truck accidents that occur due to shifting or lost loads may have a right to seek compensation for their injuries and damages. The families of those who lose a loved may have a right to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit against the at-fault party or parties. Source: KTBC, "2 children killed in rollover crash," June 26, 2014
