A Texas man is dead after his vehicle was struck by an intoxicated driver at an intersection in Atascocita. The victim perished on March 9 at about midnight, when an SUV smashed into the decedent's sports car. The driver of that sports car died in the fatal crash, though a passenger survived with injuries that were not life-threatening. Authorities report that the driver of the smaller vehicle had stopped at a red light at the intersection of FM 1960 and West Lake Houston Parkway. That driver proceeded through the intersection when the light turned green. However, as he traveled across the intersection, he was struck by a drunk driver who did not recognize a red light. The defendant smashed into the driver's side of the Chevrolet Corvette, and the driver was declared dead at the scene. The decedent's mother was riding as a passenger in the smaller vehicle. She suffered moderate injuries and was taken to a local medical facility. The intoxicated driver, who was behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Trailblazer, did not suffer any serious injuries. He was taken into custody at the scene of the drunk driving accident, and he has already been charged with intoxication manslaughter, according to officials. Officers continue to investigate the incident. Relatives of the victim in this case may be able to recover financial damages from the at-fault driver who caused the drunk driving accident. Such drivers should be held responsible for their actions in both civil and criminal court. Victims who have suffered serious injury or the loss of a loved one because of a drunk driver may be entitled to compensation for pain and suffering, emotional distress and a variety of other civil claims in Texas.
