A third victim has died after suffering serious injury in a vicious crash that left scores of young people injured when a drunk driver plowed into a Texas crowd. The 26-year-old woman was the third decedent in the case; a 27-year-old woman and 35-year-old man also perished in the incident. The car accident occurred when an alleged drunk driver drove into a crowd of victims at the South by Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas. In addition to the three decedents, seven additional victims are still in the hospital. One person remains in critical condition after the car accident. Authorities say that the driver, accused of DWI, had a blood alcohol content of 0.114 percent, which is significantly higher than the legal limit for the state of Texas. The driver, age 21, is facing serious charges including capital murder. His bail has been set at $3 million, according to local news sources. The man could also face supplemental charges such as aggravated assault with a motor vehicle. Authorities say that the at-fault driver fled from officers after they attempted to pull him over for failure to use his headlights. The defendant took off, driving the wrong way down a one-way street before smashing through barriers designed to keep cars away from a crowded street. Witnesses said that the driver did not use his brakes as he plowed through the crowd, and some bystanders said he even accelerated in an effort to mow people down. Victims who have been injured in auto-pedestrian car collisions may benefit from the assistance of a Texas personal injury attorney. The negligent driver who caused the car accident may be responsible for paying for damages. Victims may recover compensation for pain and suffering, medical expenses, emotional distress and a variety of other civil claims.
