Anyone who drives a car in Austin knows that they must often share the road with large commercial trucks. These vehicles usually encounter smaller cars without incident; however, when there are collisions between the two, the results can be devastating. A recent accident in a nearby town has left a family mourning the loss of a woman and in profound relief for the survival of a young child after an accident between a car and a dump truck.

The accident happened on Nov. 11 in Buda. A male driver of a dump truck with a load of sand was heading east on FM 1626, not far from Jerrys Lane. The driver lost control of the truck, crossed into the westbound lane and toppled over onto a car that was heading west.

The driver of the car, a 58-year-old grandmother, saw the truck coming toward her and had tried to get as far over in her lane as possible in an attempt to avoid the crash. Rescue crews found the car resting against the guardrail.

The woman was killed in the accident. Her young grandson, who was also in the car and was strapped in a car seat, was unharmed. He was given to a family member at the scene of the accident. It is not yet known if the dump truck driver was injured in the accident.

The loss of life is tragic in truck accidents such as this one. Authorities have not said if the driver of the dump truck will be charged; that decision will most likely be based on why he lost control, the conditions of the road and other factors that might have played a part in the accident. According to locals, the road is considered especially dangerous.

It is important to note that the dump truck driver does not have to be charged criminally for a successful civil suit to take place. The family of the woman that was killed can still seek compensation for their losses, such as final expenses and loss of companionship. An experienced legal professional can help a victim or a family facing the loss of a loved one to determine the best course of action.
