A 34-year-old woman in Dallas, Texas, died from injuries suffered after an alleged drunk driver slammed into her vehicle. The accident occurred about 5:30 p.m., and the victim’s vehicle was parked when the crash occurred.
The alleged drunk driver’s car smashed into the woman’s car while she was leaning into the back seat. She was transported to Parkland Hospital, where she later died.
The victim’s friends and family are grieving their loss, but also say that the road the accident occurred on, McKinney Avenue, needs changes. The alleged drunk driver was speeding, according to police. He is currently in the Dallas County Jail on a bail of $50,000.
When someone is injured or dies as a result of another person’s negligent actions, he or she, or the surviving family members, may file a civil suit against the at-fault party. However, if part of blame for the accident lies with an ill-designed street, the agency responsible for that design may be named as a defendant in the case as well.
The sooner such a lawsuit is filed after an accident, the better. This helps ensure that evidence important to the case is preserved. It’s difficult for family members to deal with the death of a loved and a personal injury lawsuit at the same time, though. An experienced personal injury attorney can help by handling the case’s specifics, giving the family time to grieve.
Drunk drivers who cause injury and death to innocent people should be held accountable for their actions, both criminally and civilly. Law enforcement and the prosecution will hopefully take care of the criminal case, while an attorney can handle the civil one.
